CharaMate is a local-first desktop companion platform designed to make AI characters feel less like chatbots and more like characters with a place in your everyday digital life.
Instead of being trapped in a browser tab, companions can live directly on the desktop with their own personality, expressive artwork, memories, speech and reactions.

Hikari is one of the main companions provided with CharaMate. She demonstrates the project’s character-first approach: a consistent personality, expressive visual states and dialogue that responds naturally to the moment.
Character profiles bring together personality, artwork, memories, voice and behaviour, giving each companion a coherent identity that users can understand and shape.

Pip is CharaMate’s orange spark fox companion: curious, expressive and just mischievous enough to prove that a desktop companion can have real visual charm.
Companions can react with different sprite states, speak and carry appropriate details between sessions—building presence through more than text alone.

Users can create and manage different character profiles, use locally hosted AI through FoxMind, or connect supported external providers where appropriate.
Different people have different hardware, privacy needs and model preferences. CharaMate’s modular approach is designed to support those differences without forcing everyone into one model, one character, one service or one way of interacting.
